Top Candidate for United Job

Manchester United will want Zinedine Zidane to be Manchester United’s next coach should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer be sacked. The Norwegian is under immense pressure after losses against rivals like Manchester City and Liverpool. The Merseyside Reds beat them 5-0 at home while the citizens beat them 2-0. Both the defeats were very damaging to Manchester United’s position in the table as they are now outside the top 5, and 9 points behind leaders Chelsea.

United’s season till now

Manchester United have had a tough run of fixtures which Included Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham, Villareal, and Atalanta, but they have only had 3 wins from their last 10 games. A shocking stat revealed that around 20% of their home defeats have come under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has hardly been in the job for 3 years. The fans have lost trust in the current management and have openly voiced their opinion to criticize them. They also feel that the current system and style of play is unacceptable for the club.

Why Zidane?

The board has identified Zinedine Zidane as a potential successor to the Norwegian, who has won 3 back-to-back champions leagues with Real Madrid. That successful squad also had Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane in them, who now play for Manchester United. Zidane is reportedly uninterested in the job and is waiting for the French national team head coach position to become vacant. The Frenchman is also not keen on coaching in the Premier League, as he does not speak English. It is up to the board to convince Zidane to change his mind if they make a change in the upcoming weeks.

The road ahead for United

The Red Devils will play another tough set of fixtures, including games against Villareal, Chelsea, and Arsenal teams. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under immense pressure to turn this poor form around and get positive results immediately. Considering the Fans and media pressure, anything less than a win against Watford in Manchester United’s next fixture might force the board to make a change. A draw may not mean that Solskjaer will be gone, but a defeat might.

Potential Replacements

Manchester United’s shortlist for potential managers also includes Brendan Rodgers, Erik Ten Hag, and Mauricio Pochettino, all three of whom are currently employed at other clubs. That is also one huge reason as to why Solskjaer has not been sacked yet, as the board feels that there are not a lot of candidates available ad ou of a job right now. Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso have shown interest in the job, but united are not interested in them.
