Injury Crisis at Manchester City

Injury Crisis at Manchester City, Head ache for Pep

There is an ongoing injury crisis at Manchester City, with several key players out with injury. The international break was a disastrous period of time for City players as many of them, who were playing international matches goy knocks while representing their country. This will give Pep Guardiola a major headache and maybe prove to be a major blow in their title challenge this season.

Unavailable Players

Even though Manchester City have a big and deep squad, they have been struggling to get a matchday squad together in the last few games. The ideal scenario for Pep Guardiola would be for his players to return in full health and, preferably, in form from the international break. But that sadly did not happen this time. Cole Palmer has picked up a hamstring injury while training. Jack Grealish has picked up a muscle injury, though he is back training with his teammates, he will not be fit to start on his first trip back to his former club, Aston Villa on Wednesday. He has also missed the last four matches for City but Is expected to be fit for the Weekend.

Bernardo Silva also didn’t train with the Portugal squad and missed their draw in Ireland. He was said to have muscle complaints too. Though he is back and playing for City, he is at risk of being injured anytime. Their Belgian talisman, Kevin De Bruyne is also out with Covid-19 infection and is not expected to be back for Villa. Ferran Torres, who is linked with a move to Barcelona, suffered a foot fracture earlier this season and is out for a long term. Breakout player Phil Foden is also a major doubt as he has just returned from his injury. A late call will be made on his involvement in the game.

French Centreback Aymeric Laporte is suspended after he reached 5 yellow cards in the Premier League this season. Thankfully, John Stones is fit to play and will partner with Ruben Dias against Villa. Oleksandr Zinchenko is also available if Pep wants to rotate, which is highly likely given that games come thick and fast in December. The Manager also revealed that he is down to his last ’14 or 15 players’ ahead of a key month in the Premier League title race.

Who could Feature For Manchester City

The good thing for Manchester City is that they have a huge squad with plenty of depth. Pep can still put out a team capable of beating Aston Villa on Wednesday, despite a long injury and suspension list. He still has players like Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, Ilay Gundogan, Ruben Dias, Rodri, etc. who are fit to play and injury-free for now. Even though there is an injury Crisis at Manchester City, they should be able to win the game.

The Probable eleven for City against Villa is

Ederson; Cancelo, Dias, Stones, Zinchenko; Silva, Fernandinho, Palmer; Mahrez, Jesus, Sterling.
