Ralf Rangnick is set to be appointed as the next Manchester United Interim Manager. He will take on the responsibility till the end of the season in the Interim role. Carrick himself took over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after he was sacked following an embarrassing defeat at Watford.
Rangnick, Manchester United Interim Manager Career
Rangnick’s Coaching Career
Ralf Rangnick is a German professional Football Manager, Sports Executive, and former player. He is also known as the Godfather of the Gegenpress, which is a style of play that involves the team, after losing possession, immediately attempting to win back possession, rather than falling back to regroup. He was known to deploy an attacking system with counter-pressing, high-intensity direct football. After an uneventful career as a player, Rangnick began his coaching career in 1983, at age 25.
He began his coaching when he was hired by Ulm 1846, with whom he won the Regionalliga Sud in his debut season. Rangnick was then appointed by Bundesliga club Vfb Stuttgart, winning the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2000. Then in 2001, he joined Hannover 96, winning the Bundesliga 2. After a brief period with Schalke 04, Rangnick signed with Hoffenheim in 2006 and achieved successive promotions to lead the club to the Bundesliga. He departed the club in 2011 and returned to Schalke 04, where he won the 2011 DFB Pokal and reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
In 2012, Rangnick joined Red Bull as the Director of Football at Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig. He also served as the head coach of the latter across two periods between 2015 and 2019. At Red Bull, Rangnick helped oversee their expansion into European football, where Red Bull clubs rose in market value from €120 million to €1.2 billion during his tenure. He is currently working as the Head of Sports and Development at Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow.
Contract with Manchester United
Ralf Rangnick will sign a 6-month contract until the end of the season with Manchester United to be their Interim manager. He was one of the 5 names on the shortlist to be the short-term manager of the club. The board began talks with the German a couple of days ago and have reached an agreement with him and his representatives. He only accepted the deal because it also includes a 2-year Consultant position at the club after his tenure as the Interim Coach. He will not be available for the Chelsea game this weekend, but subject to Lokomotiv Moscow’s cooperation, he will probably be available for the Arsenal game midweek next week.
