The Gunners Resurgence

Arsenal have rejuvenized their season after a disastrous start to the season. They are currently 5th in the table with 20 points from 11 games so far. The resurgence began after a 5-0 thumping from the hands of Manchester City at the Etihad. Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka was sent off that day, and the overall performance summed up arsenal’s season and their ceiling for the season. But Arsenal have also taken more league points than Liverpool in the calendar year.

Disatrous Start to the Season

Arsenal had a disastrous start to the season with a 2-0 defeat against newly-promoted Brentford. They followed it up with another 2-0 home defeat against Chelsea in the London Derby. The next weekend provided the most humiliating defeat of the lot at the Etihad. The performances of the players were far from what was expected and many started criticizing Mikel Arteta and the players’ desire, attitude and tactical discipline.

The only way is up

After failing to get a single point out of their first three Premier League games and failing to score a single goal, ARsenal got back to bak 1-0 wins against Norwich and Burnley. This was where the momentum started building for them. The following weekend they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-1, which showed that the faith that the board put in Arteta was the right thing to do, and it paid off.

Maintaining Stability

After a good run of victories, they drew the next couple of games against Brighton and Crystal Palace. But they returned to winning ways against Aston Villa. Then they also won the next two games to make it three wins in a row where they beat Leicester and Watford. They kept a clean sheet in both of those games. Since the Man City defeat, they have kept 5 clean sheets. The Gunners are now unbeaten in their last 8 games.

Key Stars

The resurgence is largely down to some key tactical changes made by coach Mikel Arteta and he is getting praises for them. But the performances of some players have also made them stand out. Pierre Emerick Aubameyand and Emile Smith Rowe have both scored 4 goals each and have been key to their success this season. Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Aaron Ramsdale and Albert Sambi Lokonga have also impressed a lot.
